Subscribe by email? Yes Please!

We’ve updated the email notifications feature on Disqus to be more powerful and reach more of your visitors.

Why is this awesome?

Previously, only commenters with a Disqus Profile could receive email notifications when new comments were posted in the thread. Now, everyone can receive replies for the entire conversation, even Guest commenters.

There’s a couple of ways to subscribe by email. Let’s say someone was reading your post but was not compelled to comment just yet. However, they may still want to keep up with the conversation. They can click “Subscribe by email” without posting a comment.

If a Guest wants to subscribe while posting a comment, they can simply select “Subscribe to all comments” under the comment box. We like to keep things simple but powerful here at Disqus.

Commenters with a Disqus Profile can manage your notifications here.

Cheers,

Giannii

  • pretty great guys, thanks
  • I have the same question as another poster that didn't get answered - is there anyway to set "Do not subscribe to comments" as the default option - in the world of active permission marketing - if people aren't paying attention they get email that they weren't expecting - we just got some feedback that the default setting was lame and i have to agree - anybody know how to swap that round? Thanks
  • We're still developing an option for that withing our admin, but for the time being subscribe to our blog here for future updates on features.
  • RSS is still right there, directly above.
  • Excellent work, Thanks and greetings from Germany
  • How can I set "Do not subscribe" option as default? How can I remove this dropbox?

Hi, is there a way to disable this function from my end? As in not give this option at all in the first place.
  • Do you want to remove the "subscribe by email" link?

  • Hey Giannii, I would also like to remove the 'Sort by/Subscribe by' part, since the theme I use isn't wide enough to display this on 1 line.

Is there an easy way to do this? Cheers.

    Hi All

I want to tell you that some javascript functions/methods are not supporting by IE7 Browser this are following

    1) appendChild: when you inserting the <div> by javascript then IE7 not supporting these methods please dont use this method when you inserting no. <div> by javascript. Instead that, Please use InsertBefore() method

    for example:

    var mydiv=document.crreateElement('<div>');

    for(int i=0;i<5;i++)//inserting 5 times

document.appendChild(mydiv); // it will give Error by IE7 (Operation Aborted)

    then please use following

    document.InsertBefore(mydiv);//it will works
    </div></div></div>

    This feature was sorely needed.
  • Thank you for this great feature.

I have a problem with comment, plz help me: Some of my comments seem to be lost, I commented on a post, at first it appeared, and then, when I visited to this post again, it wasn't there. This happened to me twice. I think there's a problem with DISQUS server, but I'm not sure. Plz help me to solve this.

    Thank you very much.
  • Would you kindly email help@disqus.net with the posts you think
comments are missing from and how many you expected to be there.

    Thanks,

  • Is there a way we can manage the subscriptions? Like see who subscribed to which posts, unsubscribe them, etc?

  • Discusss
    very nice job
  • Finally! :P
  • RSS is still right there, directly above.
  • This is totally great! Thanks for adding this!
  • Adding? I am seeing replacement of RSS by email. Is it a better implementation? I am not sure. Many of readers are not willing to leave their emails on every server. RSS saves privacy better.
  • RSS still exists. Check out the RSS button next to the comment count header.
  • Oh yes, RSS icon appears with comments only. Why not on the same place, as an option to choose between RSS or email?
  • Joe
Excellent, glad to see this getting implemented.
  • I have translated these two strings to my language, thanks. Although many of them are still not transfered to our language interface for months…
  • I love the one-click simplicity. Nice work, guys.
  • Nice implementation.
