Featured Friday: Annie of banannie.com

Annie is a mom, and a Wordpress theme designer.

What do you do for a living?

I’m a web developer and WordPress customizer/troubleshooter.

What got you into that business?

It began as a hobby, something I could do for fun when my kids were little. Friends began to ask me to help them with their sites, and it grew from there. I do it on a part-time basis. It sure beats other part-time jobs out there!

How did you find Disqus?

I heard about it awhile back, just in the general Twitter chatter.

What feature do you use most?

I’ve been lax with the blogging thing lately I’m afraid, that’s going to change soon. I’ve used twitter comments a few times, very handy.

If you could request one additional feature for Disqus, what would it be and why?

Hmm, not sure…maybe the ability to upload an image within a comment? Sometimes a picture can be the best response.

To learn more about Annie visit her site, twitter, or Disqus Profile.

Cheers,

Giannii

Just signed up for disqus. Looks like a great tool for webmasters.

  • How are you liking Disqus? im thinking of getting another site going thats not wordpress, I like WP n' all but want to know what else is out there.
  • If you could request one additional feature for Disqus, what would it be and why?

" On the comment section aside od from a picture and a name its should state if the author and current commentors are online or not... So that the interactions are easy to access.."

  • Oh, I think I would hate that. The expectation of immediate access is something I'm trying to combat in my life. It's bad enough with people to whom I've given my cell number, much less complete strangers. ;)

I am a realestate web designer and PPC expert. I spent 20 hours a day working on websites and trying to invent a better wagon wheel to beat the PPC thing. You can visit my Chesapeake Real estate site at http://vahud.com
  • Exactly, pictures within a comment will be very effective. By this posters will be able to share their thoughts to the great extent.
  • I find it so interesting how many people part time got into what they do for business through helping friends with their website projects. I started a consulting company after I couldn't pass up any more all the people asking me how I get traffic to my online fitness business.

    Good for you Annie
  • I'm new to Disqus and have just started poking around all the features.

The one thing that I'd like to see when leaving a comment, in addition to the option to subscribe to all the comments on a post, is the choice to subscribe to just the threaded replies to the comment that I just left. (As both a blog owner and a commenter I'd love to use this.)

Basically, when leaving a comment, I'd like check boxes that say the following...
-Subscribe to all comments on this post.
-Subscribe to replies to my comment only.

Or there could be one box next to each thread with the option to "Subscribe to this thread." That way, if you see an interesting thread, but aren't necessarily commenting on it, you could follow up on that only, without having to subscribe to all comments on a post.
  • Also, I was curious if Disqus, Facebook and Twitter are the only ways to sign in or is that something you've chosen specifically. Google would be great because many of my readers have blogger accounts.
  • We're talking about integrating Google Friend Connect and we'll
announce any new features here on our blog.

  • I love that, Annie of banannie.com
I would respond to the questions put to Annie in a similar manner except where it asks: What feature do you use most?

I would have to say the most powerful and viral use for me right now is the ease of which you can invoke the facebook connect and twitter API's for commenters. It looked complicated at first but you don't have to write one line of code. My problem is too many passwords out there so this is one step closer to not having to use a scheme of remembering too much. Got enough in my head. Visit me at http://12Flat.com and another blog I developed for a client http://bipolaroni.com. Both these sites are using the Disqus commenting system with the facebook and twitter API's.

    Thanks Disqus
