Sweetcron is an open source solution for creating a self-hosted Lifestream; a blog-like website that shows your activity across the Web over many social networks. By default there is no commenting system within Sweetcron and this is how you get one!

Open up _footer.php in your chosen theme (i.e. same folder)
Sandvox is a powerful website creation tool created by Karelia for the Mac. Disqus was just recently integrated into Sandvox, granting users a more diverse option for commenting.
We just released a significant update to the Disqus comment system that is now live on everyone’s website. Most of the major changes are behind the scenes, but there are two areas that you will notice immediately.
Performance
The comment system was rewritten to render quicker and more reliably across all browsers. We did some heavy testing here in the Disqus labs and here are our results:
Internet Explorer is up to 5x faster
FireFox is up to 3x faster
Webkit (Safari and Chrome), and Opera is up to 2x faster
These results are only some of the advantages of our improvements. We’re very excited to show off new functionality that will come from this upgrade. More details soon.
Interface
We made some interface changes that will affect your sites. Check out our interface guide on the Disqus Wiki for full details.
Here is the short list:
Voting arrows has been replaced with “Like.” You can now “Like” comments, giving the commenter a positive reputation point on Disqus and helping other readers discover great comments.
The More Menu is a new addition that brings up numerous options, such as reblogging. Moderators will find all the admin controls there as well, including removing comments and blocking options.
The Media Menu is where you will find the video comments toggle if you have this enabled. As we release more media functionality, they will be found here.
So what do you have to do?
How to upgrade
If you are using Disqus on a WordPress blog, go to your plugins page to update or download the new plugin. For all other platforms, this upgrade is automatic.
As with every new release, we’re paying very close attention to your feedback. Let us know what you think in the comments.
UPDATE: You should now be able to see an update box for you plugin if you’re using Wordpress. This was a fix for users not being notified of the update. -Giannii
Update: There was an update to the implementation. This behavior will no longer be exhibited for visitors using most modern browsers. For the most consistent and best performance, site owners are still encouraged to implement the following fix.
If you’re using Facebook Connect and it’s causing your site statistics to be skewed, we have an interim fix:
Download the following file. (right click and save link as)
Upload this file to the domain that your call back url references. (If your call back url is your-domain.com, you would need to upload it anywhere on your-domain.com for it to work)
Add the following code in your website’s <head> :
<script type="text/javascript">
var facebookXdReceiverPath='http://your-domain.com/path/to/xd_receiver.html';
</script>
And that’s it. Feel free to contact us if you’re having any issues implementing this fix: help@disqus.com
Our new implementation of Facebook Connect was released on Friday. It’s experimental and may temporarily cause website statistics (Google Ana., Mint, Clicky, etc.) to have been skewed. We’re working on addressing this issue with Facebook and apologize for any inconvenience.
We’re big believers in the power of the comments to overtake the blog post. Content may be king, but with a great audience, it is only the first voice in the conversation to follow.
Mashable, a leading blog that covers social media and web technology, is a good example of this. Their daily blog posts are bookmarked, tweeted, and commented on numerous social services around the web. Disqus now powers Mashable’s comment system, the same lovable comment system you’ve grown to love, but with a couple key additions that you may want to check out. We’ve been working with Mashable and UberVU, a new conversation tracker, to deliver these “social media reactions” back to the readers right on Mashable.
So what does this mean?
If Mashable’s posts are discussed on Twitter or Digg, those tweets and comments will appear in their Disqus powered comment system. Other supported services include Flickr, FriendFeed, YouTube, and many more.
Tweet your comments
Now, you can also retweet your comments to Twitter. Enter your twitter details on the Account Services Page and check Retweet this comment when posting.
We’re testing this and a couple new features exclusively on Mashable for the next couple weeks, so keep your eyes peeled. Once we’re ready for everyone, we’ll announce all the dirty details.
This morning I spoke with a couple Disqus users about our service and to my surprise none of them knew about our Follow option on the profile page. It’s a great way to keep tabs on your friends and find conversations that may interest you.
What does +Follow do exactly?
Following a user allows you to view their recent comments on your friends comment stream.
The Follow button is located on every users profile page. (We plan to make it more accessible whilst viewing sites in future releases)
A Friend is someone that follows you and you follow them back.
A Fan is someone that follows you but you don’t follow them back.
We would really love to hear your feedback about this option and what you like/dislike about it. Your feedback is very valuable to us and helps the site improve the way you like it.
