Making Moderation Easier

Today is a day of days as our moderation page received some slick upgrades from our development team.

What has changed?

  • Search: I know some of you have been thinking “It would be nice to have a way to search and sift through my comments”. Now you can! Search your forum comments by typing any word in the search field. Pressing enter or clicking the search icon will activate the search.
  • Pagination: We removed pagination and in doing so we decreased load time of the moderation page. Click Load more comments… at the bottom of page to append comments 25 per page.
  • Easier navigation:
  • Toggling between comments and threads and the different list filters is now easier to navigate. We preserve your current moderation in the browser location bar, so you can now use your back button, open content in new tabs, or browse to a list filter directly from the URL.

  • Revised Comment View: We shuffled the options on the comments to make each field readily viewable for you. You can get all the information you need on one page.

    1. 1. User Avatar
    2. 2. User name
    3. 3. Email
    4. 4. User IP Address
    5. 5. User Website
    6. 6. Comment Text
    7. 7. Date & Time
    8. 8. Post Name
    9. 9. Forum Name
  • Closing A Thread: You may now close a thread in just one click.

We would love to hear your thoughts and opinions in the comment section below.

    Cheers,

  • Great upgrades. Looks nice in Firefox, Giannii, but it's ugly in Safari. Be happy to send you a capture ...

  • Looks like maybe someone tweaked it last night. It's rendering just like Firefox now. :-)

  • Search is great. Thanks! In addition to searching my own comments, I would love to be able to search another site's comments and comments from a specific person.
  • Feel free.

  • Thanks for the update to DISQUS.
Closing thread option is my favourite one.
    Some suggestions:
Will not it be a good idea to replace the unclaimed user avatar with DISQUS logo? Just thought it might look good on blogs when there are many unclaimed user comments.
Another request is, why there seems to be no easy way to delete blogs from my profile.

I will love to see more from DISQUS. But thanks for these updates today.
    Cheers

  • FYI - Firefox on a PC the formatting is still a bit ugly. The comments are squished together. On IE6 the formatting looks better and I see the highlight color behind the comment block on hover. But it could use a bit more space between blocks.

Seems to take forever for "more comments" to load. Anything I can do about this?

  • I'm not seeing any problems with FireFox, but there's a severe performance regression in Konqueror -- maybe the disqus people can try their code in a wider variety of web browsers?
  • What browser are you using?

  • Thanks Giannii - a nice new feature, and much appreciated.

I wanted to draw your attention to another issue - I've just noticed my second spam comment from a user within Disqus - this individual has been adding an identical (not promotional) piece of text in dozens of Disqus-powered blogs, with a link to a Free Satellite 'blog'. I had another a few days ago which linked to a ferry web site with a destination mentioned in the blog. Again, the text was not a promotional piece or offensive, but it was a generic statement that could be made on any blog.

These may not be 'bots' but they are certainly not genuine commentators. You may wish to look at pattern / timing of comments, and look for repetition patterns within a users' comments within your anti-spam regime to keep the quality of Disqus high.

    Thanks and best regards, David
