DISQUS for iPhone: Mobile comment moderation

Most of us are iPhone fans here at Disqus. While it is simple to moderate incoming comments on the phone with Disqus’ email notifications (just respond with delete, approve, or spam), sometimes we pined for a better mobile interface to do some heavy moderating.

Tonight, we’re releasing the beta version of Disqus mobile for the iPhone. This is an iPhone interface for moderating unapproved and spam comments on your sites.

Just point mobile Safari to http://m.disqus.net and log into your Disqus account. From there, just select the site that you’d like to moderate.

You can view two comment queues: All and Spam. You can toggle this in the upper right-hand corner.

To perform an action, just slide your finger across a comment to view the options. You can also perform bulk moderation actions by selecting multiple comments then scrolling down to the bottom of the screen for options.

Disqus for iPhone takes advantage of new API methods which we will be making public very soon. This mobile application is meant to demonstrate new API functionality that developers will be able to use in the coming weeks.

Add this to your home screen by selecting + and selecting “Add to Home Screen.”

This app is released as beta, so please report any bugs you encounter. We will be constantly tweaking Disqus for iPhone to make it powerful and enjoyable to use.

  • Very good to read the new feature of Disqus for iphones as just selecting the site that we would like we can view all our spams and comments. It had really made my iphone more powerful and enjoyable to use.

  • The comment quality would have to be really good for it not to be recognized as spam. For the prices quoted, it may actually rise above the normal level of comment spam, especially if they’re hiring third-world spammers with some education.

I'm actually tapping this out on a G1 and, yes, rather dissapointed that mbile Disqus doesn't support me yet (and actually kinda wondering what kinda iPhone-specific hoo-ha the devs did to keep me from it: i can SEE all comments. just not act on 'em! c'mon guys - make the actions little statis buttons... links even. and you're done!)
  • Not bitter at all. Just disappointed that iPhone seems to be all the rave, yet there are many other phones/platforms that have been around longer. Very few people have developed apps for them -- and they seem to be an afterthought only when a new iPhone app is developed. Thanks for commenting.
