Comments Can Be Blog Posts

We think so too.

A lot of great conversation goes on in comments that shouldn’t be stuck behind the fold. Publishing these back to traditional blogs is a great way to bring attention to great content. It needs to happen more often.

That’s why we’ve been trying to make it even easier.

Announcing Reblogging on DISQUS

Now on comments throughout DISQUS, you can find a reblog link where you can publish a quotation of the comment to your blog. This quote is cited with the original author, the blog where it originally appeared, and a link back to the original comment to give the discussion full context.

At the moment, we’re supporting publishing to Wordpress, Movable Type, TypePad, and Tumblr with more platforms to come.

So next time you see a comment that everyone really needs to read, give it a whirl. We’re excited to see more good content bubble to the surface.

It looks like Tumblr and wordpress has greater advantages in Disqus as most of the features are created mostly for their users.
  • I have not try out the reblogged features. It's relatively new to me. My comment to this reblog feature is that it is awesome. However, I have read through the article and it states that "we can publish a quotation of the comment to our blog". Which means we are not able to blog the whole comment ?
  • ryanlow
I am glad to see that Disqus is working on unfolding features that users are asking for. Reblogged features are a relieved for all commenters as their comments will not be just it. Now they might become a famous commenter , just like a famous blogger.
  • jonaw
Reblogged features are not commonly seen and thus, I felt that it's certainly a brilliant idea. Giving people a chance to reblog comments that are superb and original commenter will also gain popularity in the mean time.

As what most commenters have commented, I believed there are more to be added on this reblogged features to further enhance the usability.
  • aprilwoods
We do not need to edit the templates of our blogs right? To have the reblogged feature working
  • Janliao
Are there a tracking system to show which comments we have reblogged?
  • This reblogged features is great! Probably a counter should be added so that the original commenter will know how many times it has been reblogged.

  • That is a really cool feature.
  • I like this feature. I often leave a comment somewhere and wish that I had just posted that on my blog, instead.

Anyway, I came across this feature a few weeks ago, but forgot how it worked. I'm testing this now to find out. Hopefully, reBlog is enabled right now.
  • This will be great for the blog owners who may run out of topics to write....a chance take a breather. It will encourage guest to post blogs instead of just using the originating blog site as a platform to post comments.
  • Great Idea and very well put together video on the subject. I am going to have to try out reblogging comments.
  • Nice feature. But it will be much better if original commentator can receive a notification when reblogged.
  • Great news ! The video is very useful . Thanks for uploading it.
  • I just learnt about Disqus now, so i guess you were not so late. I checked and saw many people actually benefitting from it. So I also thought of using Disqus and give it a shot. Thanks for the great post.
  • This is a new feature that I very much like. Disqus seems to make it easyer for blogers day by day . Will be wanting moren more infos bout it though

  • ok - I'll bare myself as a techno dumby - so here goes.
I followed the Disqus Install instructions (twice) to edit my Blogger template to 'put Disqus on my site' but saw no physical difference at the site after I ran a test comment to one of my blog posts.
From the perspective of knowing zilch about Disqus prior to doing this it appeared to me that I spent most of my time setting up yet another social networking membership site at my new Disqus membership page.
    What am I missing?
  • Michael,

Could you email your template to help@disqus.com so I can see what is going on. It should be a quick setup on blogger.

  • hi. I must say congratulations! Wonderful changes and new opportunities. All these people are glad for you.. me too ..
  • Im loving this... Its amazing how much content, very valuable, interesting and relevant information that goes unread because people dont want to read through a large amount of comments... Kudos to you !! :) All we need now are emoticons in comments :)
  • meaning of success
    I love disqus :)
  • Interesting Idea. At first I thought you were going the Active Rain road with the rebloging thing but this is better.
  • Thanks for making it all simple. Now even a caveman / woman:) can do it.
  • great idea! is there a certain points or say a reward if you lots of takers or many users reblog your comment?

ya! this is a cool idea!
  • This is a brilliant feature!
  • Great idea! Too often I'll start to respond to a post, and then think "I want this on my blog!". This will likely have me mining disqus a bit more now!
  • marKymarC888
hi beatriz! How do i get you to write a review for my cafe? =)
  • none none
    pretty sweet
  • I like this new features. Very useful!
  • Very cool feature and I agree the original blogger should somehow get notifcation

  • Great work, guys. I originally thought reblog means it'll erase our blog.
  • Thanks for making the plugins. I sure do appreciate it.
  • Just a quick note that if you're using Drupal, Disqus Reblogging works if you have the Blog API module enabled.
  • A suggestion for Disqus; emoticons! Maybe this has been suggested before, and maybe some of you don't like it, but I'm a fan of emoticons in comments and posts. Just to set the mood of a line of comment. I think it must be easy to implement But as I said; it's a suggestion...
    [edit]
Never mind, found were I needed to post this :$
  • Like your suggestion. Emoticons is great! People are now using smiley in most of their comments. Hope disqus will have this feature soon.
  • FloMo1981
The reblogging feature does not seem to work with Tumblr.

I always get an internal error.
  • girk
Is it an internal error from Disqus or Tumblr?
  • FloMo1981
Seems to be an internal error from Disqus. When I try to add my Tumblr Account to the reblog settings, it says Internal error and I have the option to save again or cancel (if I remember correctly).

When I click on repost within the comments section and try to insert my account details there, a page shows up, which says something like 'An error has occured. It's not your fault, we are working on it.'
  • Does this still occur now?
  • FloMo1981
yeah still occurs, no change there :(.
  • I saw this implemented while reading a comment from our blog and quickly checked here. Awesome feature!!

(b2evolution support please hehe :p - btw, if it's using the common XML-RPC, b2evo uses it also, it can also use MT and WP's ;) )

  • I wish i could find a Disqus plugin for b2evolution :)
  • ooh, another blogger who is a b2evolution'er.

Yah, it's better to have a plugin than the JavaScript method. it will also help in increasing the adaptation of Disqus - it's always raised = plug-n-play + SEO-indexing of comments.

I hope the Disqus team migrated their latest WP plugin to b2evo, since the two are closely related than MT, Drupal, and Typepad :p

  • Ryo
    Another b2evolution user here :)
I really would like a plugin.
But anyone now how to integrate that Javascript thing in b2evo? The templates are kind of weird.
  • I'm not familiar with b2evo myself. Hopefully someone else out there
    does.
  • Ryo
I did it. Although I have some problems, it works. The templates are weird in b2evo.
Still, a plugin would be much better, especially for search engines.
  • Great new feature. This is what many users have been waiting for.
  • Seriously, wtf is beanieville doing in the video? I thought he was too tied up buying solars... ;)
  • cool feature. One suggestion: Can we have the link to Devin's blog instead of his Disqus profile in the line "Originally posted as a comment by Devin on A VC using Disqus."
  • You can change the text or link to anything you'd like when you click
    reblog.
  • It'll be interesting to see how this gets used. I was going to "reblog" Daniel's comment about not being sure where its going to go, but the link isn't on this blog!?
  • Sounds cool.
  • That was pretty cool!
  • Nice. Glad to see this new functionality. See you guys on Wednesday night.
  • Le sigh, per my comment on Fred's original post, there's more to this than just reblogging. Reblogging takes context and moves it, which doesn't help anyone since very, very few comments are self-contained. It's better than nothing, but that's about it.

Hopefully see you guys at BWE.
  • I'm looking forward to seeing how people reblog comments. I'm positive we'll have a better idea on where to take it from there.

But for now, just taking experimental steps. That's the beauty of the web. We can do that and still make quick improvements.
  • Soooooooolid. :)
  • I have been waiting for this for 3 years... was wondering when someone was going to make it simple - kudos
  • That is a really cool feature.
  • Nice work guys... this is a great feature. Like Bijan, I'd like an email notification option. Also, I still think the attribution link should point to the commenter's site by default, not their Disqus profile. Links are the currency of the web. The commenter should be rewarded with some link love. Sure, the person reblogging can edit the link if they want, but I doubt anyone will do that. Lastly, why don't I see a reblog option on the comment for this post?
  • While reblog is live on Disqus, we are still waiting to update the WordPress plugin that features the option. It'll be here shortly.
  • Great idea, I will have to have a play, see how well it works with Drupal.
  • Is there an easy way for the person who wrote the original comment to get notification that their comment was reblogged
  • ohknan
now that too has me thinking again... how do i know that the name hasn't bin changed i mean really we all
happen to use the same letters in words,, its all on a form of ply wood or saw dust first no see how it made it long long ago see do you apply eye's first or first eye... no more needs to be said lost the other i
