Talking with Leo and Amber on TWiT’s net@night

I (Daniel) had the opportunity to chat with Leo Laporte and Amber MacArthur on their net@night podcast, or netcast, on Tuesday.

Check it out here.

I’m a big fan of a lot of Leo’s stuff so this was really fun. We talked about what Disqus is and a little about our work to reshape how people perceive blog discussions. There’s also a little bit about how important the trust of bloggers is to us. I come in around the halfway point, but I highly recommend listening to the entire podcast.

Leo is a Disqus user as well so be sure to pop over to his blog and say ’sup.

  • Leo is the reason I'm now a Disqus user :)
  • Listening to the podcast right now! I subscribe to like 50 so it takes me a while to catch up on all the weekly Ones!

  • Hey Daniel .. thought I'd stop by and tell you that I heard the TWiT program and thought you did great. I was already a user with Disqus integrated into my sites, but I still found it a very interesting podcast.

Keep up the excellent work -- and I really like the Seesmic integration.
  • Thanks, I'm very happy to hear that.

  • Not the entire list. We select a few to place on the front page. This
    will be updated soon.
  • Just got done listening to the show, and decided to sign up. You mentioned there's something like 15000 blogs using this service, is there a way to browse that list?

  • btw, you mention that Hot Air blog uses it, but i visited the site and can't find Disqus comments. just normal comments. did they uninstall?
  • I listened to the show, and inspired me to add Disqus (pronounced discuss, now I now that) to my tumblelog! One thing that I've found and I can't get rid of is that all the text boxes for adding comments have the scroller bars on the side, even though theres no use for it!

EDIT: After trying the comments on Safari, I've found it is no problem. Can't get rid of them in Camino though.
  • Hi Larry, what browser/OS are you using?
  • I'm using Camino 1.6 on Mac OS X 10.5.2

Since trying it on Safari 3.1.1, I have realised that it only happens on Camino. Here's a screenshot of Camino showing the post box.

    Thanks in advance!

  • I typed in 'cookiebehavior' and the one that's there is already set to 0.

    Thanks!

  • Great job on Net@Nite. FriedGeek is totally on the money. I've installed Disqus on my blog and I'm pretty impressed so far.

Be sure to find a way to "sell" the fact that you guys are legit to everyone. Of course having us adopt your service is a great start.

Best of luck to you guys! Keep it real.

    Cheers,
    Dave
  • Enjoyed it. Couldn't believe how many times Leo mispronounced Disqus.
  • Hello! I'm not sure if it's been asked or posted previously but I have a special anti-spam comment plugin (Peter's anti-spam: http://www.theblog.ca/?p=21 ) and I would like to keep it to avoid spam comments. Would disqus be able to work with it? I tried disqus briefly and it didn't offer me that capability. I would love if it can support that. Thanks
  • I didn't know about this little program. I signed up as quickly as I could!! Thank you Leo for this great addon to my blog!!
  • Just listened to the net@nite episode. Got the plug-in installed on Wordpress but now trying to get something to show up on the sidebar.
  • I first heard about Disqus from Dave Winer's blog but then heard Leo talking about it on net@nite... I just installed it and so far I LOVE IT! Keep up the awesome work! :D

  • I had heard Leo mention the Disqus service on a previous cast of his but was hesitant to adopt it for the same reasons he had outlined. After listening to this episode of Net@Night all my questions and misgivings of Disqus were answered and I joined up.
  • Nice show. You sold me when you mentioned replying to comments via email. I'm definitely going to try out Disqus on all my niche blogs so I can admin & reply to comments in one place.

  • I'm looking forward to listening to the show later - I heard your service mentioned last week, and have been looking at it.
