Disqus: Now with 100% more video

We just launched something that I think is pretty cool: video comments. Disqus partnered with Seesmic for this one. Seesmic is a new service that powers video-enabled conversations. We’re big fans over here at Disqus and we’re happy to be working with them.

Why?

Our main goal with Disqus has always been to enhance how people interact and participate on blogs. Video comments, while a relatively new concept, is something we’ve been hearing people chatter about recently. Enabling video conversation is not our focus, so we came together with our friends at Seesmic to make this happen.

So why does Disqus have video comments? We think it’s easy and fun — a different way to approach a blog discussion. Decide for yourself.

Get to it

If you have Disqus enabled on your blog, you can choose to enable or disable video comments right here: disqus.com/configure

Give it a try below or test it out on any of the following sites:

Scripting.com
LouisGray.com
SheGeeks.net
avc.blogs.com
HowardLindzon.com
LoicLemeur.com
WinExtra.com

(UPDATE: Pardon the lame and erroneous title. I mean: Now with 1+100% more video. Thanks Niclas!)

  • I am a rather camera shy person. Probably organized something in regards to video commenting and I believe this will increase the usage of video commenting from commenters. A contest that you are able to win a web cam might work.

Expanding on the way how people interact? This is a good one. As just purely writing down our comments doesn't tell our underlying expression, our eagerness to know the answer or perhaps our excited feel on certain features. This will cut down plenty misunderstandings within the bloggers and commenters.

I have tried clicking on the video comments function and it took quite a long time to load.Probably because I didn't have my web cam attached but It simply took to long to notify me that I should get my web cam attached! However, It's still a good way to interact with your friends or supporters.

I just finished watching an excellent video on President Bush by the Communist Party USA . I think its insightful especially in light of Bush's past political performance over the past seven and one half years. People ought to check it out.

  • Video commenting is what makes DISQUS much more different than the rest. It will change how people leave comments. I myself is already seeing the potential and the kind of comment-environment it can produce, we'll be the first to implement here on an "official" (ie work-related) basis. :D

    New Social Media.
  • Video is good, but does it work with Vista?
