Tickets, Tracking, Trolling, and Turkey

picture-1.png

Recently, we’ve been organizing and prioritizing bugs and features for Disqus. Above is a glimpse at some of the tickets in our bug tracker as of this morning. If you’ve ever emailed us a feature suggestion or even passively made a request on your blog, we heard you and have made note!

One thing that we have been giving a lot thought to is the notion of community. A goal with Disqus is make it incredibly effortless for blogs to build their communities. Currently, many of our new blog friends are jumping on board for the powerful simplicity of the comment system. Moving forward, we’d like to place more emphasis on the ability to track comments and replies. We have plenty of ideas around this and hopefully we can show you soon.

This morning, I read this story on TechCrunch about people trolling through blog comments. When we started Disqus, one of the promises we wanted to make was the ability to curb comment trolling. We were starting a service that focused completely on improving web discussions; who better to address this than us? So we built a reputation system (Clout, we call it) into the backend of Disqus that goes beyond the typical nominal people scoring mechanisms of many sites. I’m happy to say that we’re starting to see people on Disqus make good use of that system. As Disqus grows, we’ll keep an eye on how the entire community interacts with it and how much value site owners get out of it.

The last “T” in this post is “Turkey.” That is, have a wonderful Thanksgiving to everyone out there that celebrates it.

Preventive measures are to be set up to curb such comments. There is just some senseless soul that loves to create troubles online. Great to see that tracking of comments are implemented it certainly post a certain use for users.
  • Yes! I have come across people who troll through comments and they are simply annoying. When people start to bark at them they are happier with it. Glad that I have not see anyone doing it in Disqus so far.

The ability to track comments is good. At times, A blogger might have lots of post and lots of comments per post and if they are able to track their comments, I guess its pretty tough for them to do replies or deleting.

  • It has been great using the tracking tool. It certainly goes a long way to enhance the commenting system.

  • Do not lose the initial focus. Prioritize feedbacks from users like us and arranging them in a manner where the most important feedback that appeals to the mass is the priority.

  • So fast and Turkey will be served in a month's time. Early festive greetings. ;-)
  • Honestly, no not at all. It's not a focus at the moment unless many others say otherwise. Thanks for checking in, though. :)

  • Looks cool. Is it possible to use this as forum also, lets sy, for my domain name? I mean - is it possible to use the whatever.disqus.net and point it to my domain?
  • Hi arturs,

The ability to use a CNAME with your Disqus forum is something we want
to push out pretty soon. In the meantime, you can point a redirect
from your custom domain to the Disqus forum.

  • Good stuff, Daniel. Any word on a more fully developed WordPress integration?
  • Hi Marc,

If you are referring to import functionality, I hear you on that.
Things have gotten quite hectic but we'll have it rolled out soon.

    Cheers.
