Subscribe to people’s comments! Plus new Tumblr integration!

We’ve just added the ability to subscribe to any individual person’s comments. Just look under “Feeds” on that person’s profile. Now in addition to following someone on Disqus, you can add their comment threads to your feed reader. You can view your feed on your profile.

  • Great.
  • i just wanted to say that disqus is the best website in the planet :) <3 thank youu
  • Nice feature. I always wanted to read a particular person's comments and have trouble searching for it as I am not sure which article will he/she comment and when is their latest comment. With this feature I will not have trouble in that anymore.
  • This is outstanding. Thanks for the info!
  • cool
  • SO, I'm not computer savvy (I know I know, I fail at life), and I'm wondering if I;m just retarded or the

    http://disqus.com/integration-start/_YOUR_FORUM_

link doesn't work. Everytime I copy it into my url I get an "access denied" page. I replaced the "_your_forum" with my name, so I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Am I missing something really obvious and now you all are laughing at me?
  • If you would like you can email me your template code and I can modify it for ya =)

  • Oh i love this feature. Interesting . Do you have more information about the new release?
  • I don't see a place to comment on my tumblr did i do something wrong?
  • I'm having problems getting disqus to look like how I want it on my tumblr (ofthefurrow.tumblr.com). I'd like the comment box much smaller and not white. Also the "Add new comment [disqus logo]" is not in the most orderly position =/
  • I'll take a look.
  • Awesome! Thanks for the cool tools :)

  • so I'm getting updates that people are following my comments - great! But is there a list of these people somewhere on the site? are all RSS subscribers counted, or just people who clicked on the link, and not people who subscribe by clicking the icon in the Firefox address bar, or autodetecting the feed from Google Reader?
  • You can. Click on "Options" at the top of the discussion, and you'll see the subscribe link.
  • Thanks for letting me know, Daniel. One small suggestion though - from a UI perspective, most people will miss that link (I certainly did). Under Options, there seems to be only three options -
    Logout,
    # Subscribe: This thread
    # Go to: My comments — Community Page

Why not just put them all up there on one line? Logout | Subscribe to thread | Go to my page

OR, under the comment box, next to Post as Shripriya, you could have a check that says "subscribe to thread"

It will elevate the very cool feature.
  • Oh - and it would be great if the comments could arrive via email as well - like the Subscribe to Comments Wordpress plugin.
  • Notifications are sent if the comment is in response to your thread or
your comment. We're expanding its functionality as well.
  • Can you also subscribe to all the comments on a certain blog post?

Sweet, I just added Disqus to my Tumblr-powered tumblelog. Thanks!
  • bak senin ne demek istedgini anladım ama benim anladıgıma gore senin anlatmak istedigin cok farklı yani anlayacagın yine anlamadım:).. very nice
  • You're, of course, very welcome. It looks great!

    Have fun with it.

  • prova prova
  • http://disqus.com/integration-start/_YOUR_FORUM_ link seems broken.

the implementation instructions aren't clear and seem to "replace" my permalink with the comments.
  • Hi martoon,

_YOUR_FORUM_ is not part of the link. You need to replace that part with the subdomain of your Disqus forum, in your case "martoon"

Sorry that the instructions were unclear for you. Could you send us an email at help@disqus.com for assistance?
  • This is not intuitive. It should probably be reworded so that it is clear that you have to first create a forum.
  • Hi Jauder,

Sorry for any unintuitiveness. Which part of our site are you referring to that needs to be reworded?

We mention a few times on the front page and on account creation that the first step is in creating a forum.

    Thanks!
  • I guess I would update this blog post. =)

I navigated here right after creating an account not realizing that creating a forum was not optional.

Additionally, I'm having some trouble with the comment count wrapping. Wondering if you could take a look and tell me why. Much appreciated.

One last thing, using Firebug, it looks like it is not possible to change the color of the reply box since it's an iframe. Is this correct? I would prefer to go from the beige to a gray comment box.

  • Hi Jauder,

In your theme CSS, there is a rule under div.post a#permalink that is width: 25px. Delete that width rule and it should be fine.

At the moment, it's not possible to change the color of the comment box but we will soon allow you to add your custom CSS into the iframe.

Thanks for the feedback and I hope this helps.
  • Thanks much. That worked for Firefox.. :)

    Strangely on IE6. it's offset.
  • I was trying to implement the code into the older template "Fold". Once i migrated to the newer template and followed the instructions more closely (Sunday Edition) , it worked.
  • Awesome to hear.

  • Wal
Does the thread show the context in which the comment was written?
  • It does show the thread's topic as context, as well as provide a link.
  • wow that's a really neat application
  • Good work guys!
  • This is awesome. I use tumblr on our Quickies page. And I'm planning on shifting my personal wordpress blog to tumblr too.
