Disqus launches in public beta!

It’s not to say that all blog comment discussions suck, exactly. But it can be oh-so much better. So we did Disqus, which launches in public beta today. Go ahead, take a look: http://www.disqus.com

There’s an incredible, implicit community made up of bloggers and commenters and our goal is to help bring that out. Get started by integrating the Disqus comment system with your blog.

Whether you write a blog or just read them, here’s why Disqus is on your team:

Forum backend — Expand discussions by starting new topics beyond the blog entry

Threaded conversations — Get rid of “@ first poster” once and for all and experience discussion the right way

Track comments & replies — Always know when someone directly responds to you anywhere on Disqus-enabled places

Follow friends — Stay updated on what others are saying across the web (Here’s Daniel and Jason)

Claim an identity and reputation — Claim your posts by registering and build a reputation that stays with you

Feeds and notifications — Get them through RSS or through email. Reply to the notification to post a reply on the go

Ratings and Sorting — Simply cast your judgment with a quick rating on comments – then sort through the mess to get to the good stuff

Anti-spam, anti-trolls — We’ll take care of your spam problems – without captchas. And yes, there’s also the ability to pinpoint and filter out pesky trolls

Plug in seamlessly whether you’re on WordPress, TypePad, MovableType, Blogger, or any custom blog/website.

Try it out in the comments and let us know what you think!

Email Notifications and Replying

As we make our way toward a public release, some new updates to the beta still manage to creep out. Email notifications, the first part of our notifications system, was put out last night for testing. You are able to get updates on comments made on your blog through email, and then respond by replying to that email.

We’re still testing it and it’s not yet available to enable through your settings. Send an email to all@disqus.com if you’d like to try it out for your Disqus account.
