Geez, when are you guys launching already?
I’ll answer that soon, but let me talk a little bit about what we’re doing.
Currently, Disqus user accounts are based off of a username string. We are in the middle of changing it so people are identified by the email address they use. With this approach, we can integrate much better with existing websites who may already have a userbase. Of course, there’s more to it than that and we’re going to have to smooth out the details as we roll this out. This also allows people posting anonymously to track the posts they’ve made just by entering that email address they used. But if you want to claim your posting identity and lock it down, you can do that quickly.
Over here we believe in the release early and often approach. That’s why it’s a bad disheartening that we haven’t officially launched yet. There’s a good reason though! With a lot of structural changes happening, we can’t expand too quickly and have things fall apart on a massive scale. Right now, we’re able to support our beta users on a very personal level and I hope that doesn’t change.
So when are we launching? I was going to type out a lame answer, such as: “When we feel we’re ready, yeah!” But no one likes that. So I’ll give a real answer: We hope to launch sometime between this and next month. We’re completely redoing the UI and design while big backend changes are occurring. We could definitely use some help to move this along, which brings me to my next entry…
